SfVR Workshop – Hangzhou, China

Design Summer, 2018

Since its inception in 2013, the Weimar-based research lab Space for Visual Research has gradually enlarged its operations to inspire a lively exchange with students and like-minded practitioners. A fundamental part of this endeavor is an ongoing series of exhibitions, lectures, and workshops, which have been hosted by universities and cultural institutions across the globe.

This one took place at the Phoenix Creative Park in Hangzhou as part of the annual “Design Summer”, a program curated by Jianping He. Much like the visual researchers from Weimar, the acclaimed graphic designer develops abstract compositions with experimental, often analogue means. Inspired by this shared ambition to pave new ways in the discipline of graphic design, the workshop explored various modes of image making to enable fresh content for visual communication.
