The idea of generative design is far older than the software systems commonly associated with it today. Throughout graphic design history, there have been many creatives who automatized the design process with artistic means and experimental methods, who worked with set parameters or variables to generate diverse forms. This semester was dedicated to the creation of analogue “design machines” and the evaluation of their output with regard to the balance of forms, the interaction of point, line, and plane, gravity, tension, symmetry, and so forth.
